In gameweek two of the WSL, Chelsea were held to a goalless draw by Bristol City as Arsenal thrashed struggling Yeovil Town.
Elsewhere on Wednesday, Birmingham City earned a narrow win over Brighton & Hove Albion while West Ham United and Reading finished goalless. On Thursday, Everton suffered a heavy home defeat to Manchester City.
A first-half penalty from Birmingham City’s Aoife Mannion was enough to earn the Blues all three points at Damson Park, sending them second in the WSL table with maximum points.
Arsenal are top with a considerable superior goal difference, however, after putting Yeovil to the sword at the Jewson Stadium. Jordan Nobbs and Kim Little had a hand in five of the seven goals.
Little set up Nobbs to open the scoring in the fifth minute and Beth Mead doubled Arsenal’s advantage after 20 minutes to send the Gunners 2-0 up at half-time.
After the break, Nobbs turned provider for Katie McCabe to score, and minutes later Little set up Vivianne Miedema for 4-0. Little then grabbed her third assist of the game, teeing up Nobbs for 5-0, and Dominique Janssen got in on the act for 6-0 with 10 to go.
In the dying moments of normal time, Miedema turned provider for Little to score, making it 7-0 to the visitors.
