Women’s Continental Tyres Cup | Round 3 | Liverpool and Durham play out six-goal thriller

In round three of the Women’s Continental Tyres Cup, Liverpool were held to a draw away to Durham but earned an extra point after winning the penalty shootout.

Liverpool went ahead after two minutes through Sophie Bradley-Auckland before Sarah Robson equalised for Durham with a close-range finish.

The visitors then went ahead through Emily Roberts and Abi Cottam made it 3-1 before the hour mark. Liverpool pulled a goal back in the 70th minute with a screamer from Rinsola Babajide and Courtney Sweetman-Kirk made it 3-3 late on.

Goalkeeper Anke Preuss made a save in the penalty shootout and Bradley-Auckland scored the winner for Liverpool.

Everton beat Reading in a five-goal thriller, Aston Villa earned a narrow win away to Leicester City thanks to an Aja Aguirre goal, Birmingham City beat Sheffield United on the road and Brighton & Hove Albion saw past London Bees at home.

Brighton fell behind to a Paula Howells effort in the 22nd minute but recovered through Umotong minutes later. Ellie Brazil headed home after half an hour to give the hosts the lead for the first team, and late on Whelan sealed the 3-1 victory.

Chelsea and Arsenal thrashed Crystal Palace and Lewes respectively without reply, as did Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United against Bristol City, Yeovil Town and Millwall.

West Ham put four past Millwall, with a goals from Rosie Kmita (12’), Esmee De Graaf (6’, 86’) and Brianna Visalli (9’).
