In gameweek one, Arsenal made light work of a makeshift Liverpool side still recovering after a largescale turnover of players this summer, winning 5-0 at Meadow Park.
Vivianne Miedema struck in the sixth minute to give Arsenal the lead, with Lisa Evans doubling their advantage after the quarter-hour mark.
Kim Little made it 3-0 after half an hour and Miedema grabbed her second of the game and Arsenal’s fourth minutes later.
The Dutch international bagged a hat-trick in second-half injury time to wrap up a rousing win for the Londoners.
Chelsea and Manchester City, the WSL 1 holders and nearest challengers respectively, played out a goalless stalemate at the Cherry Red Records Fans’ Stadium.
Elsewhere, Reading put Yeovil to the sword, beating them 4-0 at Adams Park through goals from Gemma Davison, Fara Williams, Lauren Burton (own goal) and Remi Allen.
Arsenal go top of the WSL 1 table with Reading second while Liverpool are rock bottom.
