U18 Premier League | Gameweek 1 | Liverpool and Man City earn big wins

Liverpool thrashed Sunderland 6-1 at the Academy of Light Training Ground to open the new u18 Premier League season in emphatic fashion and go joint-top of the North Division.

Rhys Williams broke the deadlock for Liverpool in the 15th minute. Bobby Duncan doubled their advantage after the half hour mark and Paul Glatzel made it 3-0 minutes before half-time.

Tom Smith pulled a goal back for Sunderland after the break, before goals from Glatzel, Jack Walls, Abdulrahman Sharif saw Liverpool hit the Black Cats for six.

Manchester City also scored a half-dozen goals against a North-East club, thrashing Newcastle United at the Academy Stadium to leapfrog Liverpool at the summit.

City took the lead after an own goal from Daniel Langley in the 11th minute and Lewis Fiorini made it 2-0 before the half hour mark. After the break, Dmargio Wright-Phillips scored the Sky Blues’ third goal, and minutes later Henri Ogunby netted the fourth.

Wright-Phillips and Ogunby scored again to put the game to bed and seal a 6-0 victory.

Elsewhere, Manchester United and Derby County shared six goals on Friday and Stoke City beat Blackburn Rovers at home.

United’s draw on Friday saw Mason Greenwood grab a brace and Brandon Williams get in on the scoring. For Derby, Alex Matthews and a Morgan Whittaker double helped them rescue a point.

Chelsea eased to victory away to Southampton, Tottenham emerged victorious from a ten-goal thriller, Everton beat Wolves, West Ham thrashed Norwich on the road. Leicester lost at home to Reading, Arsenal saw past Aston Villa and Fulham were held to a home draw against Swansea City.
