WSL | FA restructure Tier 1 and Tier 2 for 2018/19 | Good news for Yeovil and Brighton

The English Football Association have announced which clubs were successful in applying for a Tier 1 and Tier 2 license for the 2018/19 season.

Former England manager Hope Powell will be returning to Tier 1 of the Women’s Super League with Brighton & Hove Albion Women.

“I am overjoyed with the announcement, as this will allow the club to realise its aim of playing at the very highest level,” she said.

“I have previously said that achieving Tier 1 status is the next logical step for us in our long-term plan, and I would like to thank everyone inside and outside of the club for their support.”

Yeovil Town Ladies are also celebrating, after initially withdrawing their application due to a lack of funds.

A successful fundraising campaign now means they will be a Tier 1 side next season, battling it out with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City.

As for Sunderland Ladies, however, they revealed last month that they will not be applying for a Tier 1 or Tier 2 licence in the first wave of applications. They could revisit the decision in the future.

Watford also pulled out, and will no longer hold a Tier 2 license as of next season.

Clubs must submit their application no later than Friday, March 9, 2018.

• Arsenal Women
• Birmingham City Ladies
• Brighton & Hove Albion Women
