Premier League | Gameweek 1 | Defending champions Chelsea lose opener | Arsenal win seven-goal thriller

Chelsea’s title defence got off to the worst start, as Burnley won a five-goal thriller at Stamford Bridge.

Gary Cahill was sent off after 14 minutes and Burnley took full advantage. Sam Vokes put the visitors ahead inside of 30 minutes.

Stephen Ward doubled the Clarets’ advantage before half-time. After the restart, Vokes bagged his second and Burnley’s third to put the game beyond doubt.

Chelsea pulled two goals back in the second half through Alvaro Morata and David Luiz, but it wasn’t enough to stop Burnley picking up all three points.

The Gunners responded through Danny Welbeck, to go into the break level at the Emirates, but Leicester took the lead again when Vardy grabbed his second of the game.

Aaron Ramsey equalised for the hosts in the 83rd minute before Olivier Giroud sealed the comeback with the winning goal in the 85th minute.
