U19 European Championships | England beat Portugal in the final

England u19s won the 2017 European Championships for the first time in their history, with goals from Easah Suliman and Lukas Nmecha putting Portugal to the sword in the final at the Tengiz Burjanadze Stadium.

In front of a 4,100-capacity crowd, England and Portugal failed to break the deadlock in the first-half. The Young Lions had chances through Mason Mount and Ryan Sessegnon but couldn’t get past Diogo Costa in the Portugal goal.

Keith Downing’s side finally made a breakthrough after the break, with Suliman heading home Mound’s rebounded free-kick that hit the woodwork to put England 1-0 up in the final.

The lead didn’t last long, however. After Mesaque Dju missed a big chance to level the game, an own goal from Dujon Sterling gave Portugal their equaliser, but England weren’t to be denied.

The Young Lions fought back in the 68th minute, with Mount setting up Nmecha to finish from close range and win the game for England – their first-ever European Championship at u19 level.
